Tea Board says exports up nearly 12% on year at INR 16.42 bln during Apr-Jun

MUMBAI – India exported tea worth INR 16.42 billion in Apr-Jun, nearly 12% higher than INR 14.68 billion a year ago, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India. In volume terms, however, exports fell over 2% on year to 55.77 million kilograms during the period. During Jan-Jun,  India exported tea worth INR 36.39 billion, up over 16% from a year ago, according to the data. 

 

Exports from north India rose nearly 19% on year to INR 10.93 billion in Apr-Jun, the data showed. Exports from south India rose marginally by 0.3% to INR 5.49 billion. In terms of volume, exports from north India rose 6% on year to 34.06 million kg, but those from south India declined nearly 13% on year to 21.71 million kg.

 

In Jan-Jun, exports from north India in value terms rose over 24% to INR 24.62 billion and up nearly 11% on year to 79.42 million kg. During the same period, from south India, net tea exports were 2.3% higher at INR 11.77 billion while in volume terms exports from the region declined nearly 14% to 45.59 million kg. The all-India average price of tea during Jan-Jun was INR 291.13 per kg, up from INR 251.21 per kg a year ago.

 

In Apr-Jun, the average price of tea exported from north India was INR 320.86 per kg, up from INR 286.48 per kg a year ago. The average price of tea exported from south India rose to INR 253.12 per kg from INR 219.98 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average unit price of tea exported rose to INR 294.49 per kg in Apr-Jun from INR 257.43 per kg a year ago, the data showed.  End
