MUMBAI – Prices of oilseeds were mixed in key spot markets across the country. While prices of mustard rose in key markets, those of groundnut fell and soybean was steady, traders said. Edible oil prices are expected to rise ahead of the Navratri and Diwali festivals, market participants said.

Prices of MUSTARD rose by INR 25 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, to INR 7,350-INR 7,375 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard across the country rose to 300,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 290,000 bags the previous day, according to GGN Research.

Mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, rose by INR 100 to INR 6,700 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Demand from millers has started to firm up as the festival season is approaching, he said. "The prices could rise (by) up to INR 500 owing to festival season demand," said the trader.

SOYBEAN prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,300 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 50 bags, down from 110 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) the previous day. Prices will start to rise before Navratri, which starts from Sept. 22, the trader added.

Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal fell INR 300 to INR 4,000-INR 5,300 due to higher arrivals, Virvani said. Arrivals were at 1,938 bags, up from 654 bags (1 bag = 30 kg) the previous day, Virvani said. The rise is likely due to improved weather conditions in Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department has forecast favourable conditions for withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some parts of Gujarat during the next two days.
