MUMBAI – Prices of oilseeds were mixed in key domestic spot markets Friday. Mustard prices fell in one market because of poor demand caused by arrivals of seeds with higher moisture content. Prices of soybean and groundnut rose on the back of improved weather conditions and firm demand ahead of the Navratri festival. Edible oil prices are expected to rise ahead of the Navratri and Diwali festivals, traders said.
Prices of MUSTARD were steady in Jaipur, Rajasthan at INR 7,325-INR 7,350 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard across the country rose to 290,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up by 40,000 bags from the previous day, according to GGN Research.
Mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, were down by INR 100 at INR 6,600 per 100 kg, Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader said. Arrivals were at 5,000 bags, down 1,000 bags, from the previous day, he said. Due to heavy rainfall across the region, the arrivals were moisture-laden, which led to lower demand from millers, he added. "The demand will firm up before the Navratri festival and the prices could rise (by) up to INR 500," trader said earlier.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal, Gujarat rose by INR 100 to INR 3,800-INR 4,300 per 100 kg, Ashok Virani, a local trader said. Arrivals were at 110 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), up from 98 bags the previous day. The prices are beginning to rise as there is firm demand before Navratri festival, which starts from Sept. 22, the trader added. In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, soybean prices were steady at INR 3,900-INR 4,500 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 3,300 bags, same as previous day, Narendra Porwal, a local trader said.
Prices of GROUNDNUT in Gondal rose INR 500 at INR 4,300-INR 5,300, Virvani said. Arrivals were at 654 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), up from 251 bags the previous day, Virvani added. The rise is likely on the back of improved weather conditions in Gujarat. Central India recorded 5.7 millimetres of rain, 13% below normal, according to the India Meteorological Department. In Ratlam, prices of Groudnut were steady at INR 4,700–INR 5,700 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,100 bags, same as the previous day.
