MUMBAI – Prices of mustard were steady in key markets while those of soybean and groundnut fell because of poor demand and arrivals of seed with higher moisture content. Edible oil prices are expected to rise ahead of the Navratri festival starting Sept. 22, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed were steady in Jaipur, Rajasthan, at INR 7,325-INR 7,350 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.
Mustard seed prices at Kota, also in Rajasthan, were steady at INR 6,700 per 100 kg, local trader Mahesh Sameriya said. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Due to heavy rainfall, the arrivals are moisture-laden and there is little demand from millers, he said. Demand is likely to be firm ahead of the Navratri festival, when prices can rise by as much as INR 500 per 100 kg, Sameriya said.
SOYBEAN prices at Gondal in Gujarat were down INR 100 at INR 3,700-INR 4,200 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 98 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 116 bags the previous day. The fresh arrivals are of poor quality, because of which demand is poor, Virvani said.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal fell INR 700 to INR 3,800-INR 5,200 per 100 kg, said Virvani. Arrivals of the oilseed were at 251 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), down from 376 bags the previous day, he said.
