Gujarat's first kharif advance estimate pegs groundnut output up 30% on year

MUMBAI – Gujarat's groundnut production in the 2025-26 kharif season is pegged at 6.61 million tonnes, up 30% from 5.09 million tonnes produced in the kharif season last year, according to the first advance estimates of area, production, and yield released by the state's agriculture department.
Total kharif crop production in the state is estimated to rise 11% on year to 19.59 million tonnes, data showed. Production of foodgrains is seen rising more than 7% to 3.58 million tonnes. The total production of oilseeds is expected to rise nearly 22% on year to 8.54 million tonnes.
The production of maize in Gujarat is pegged at 533,580 tonnes, up nearly 27% from 421,660 tonnes produced last year, according to the report. Rice output in the state is likely to rise 3% on year to 2.23 million tonnes, while the production of bajra is seen falling to 303,690 tonnes from 310,370 tonnes a year ago.
The total production of all pulses in the state is estimated to rise nearly 18% on year to 484,760 tonnes, the data showed. Tur output is seen at 360,190 tonnes, up nearly 17% on year. The production of urad is pegged at 54,210 tonnes, up from 47,780 tonnes a year ago and that of moong is likely to fall to 30,000 tonnes from 33,610 tonnes last year.
Castor output in the state is seen rising to 1.44 million tonnes from 1.40 million tonnes produced last year, while soybean production is pegged to fall to 470,790 tonnes from 510,280 tonnes a year ago.
The production of cotton during the ongoing kharif season is seen at 7.33 million bales (1 bale = 170 kg), up from 7.15 million bales a year ago. Production of tobacco is likely to fall by nearly 6% on year to 79,380 tonnes. Guar seed output in the state is seen at 60,950 tonnes, down from 62,360 tonnes last year. End
