MUMBAI – Production of crude palm oil in Malaysia rose over 2% on month to 1.86 million tonnes in August, according to preliminary data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. Month-end palm oil stocks and exports also increased last month, the data showed. In August, Malaysia's total palm oil stocks increased over 4% on month to 2.2 million tonnes. However, exports of palm oil fell 0.3% to 1.3 million tonnes, the board said.
A Reuters poll had forecast stocks in August at 2.2 million tonnes, output at 1.86 million tonnes and exports at 1.45 million tonnes. Malaysia is the world's second-largest producer of crude palm oil and India is the largest consumer of edible oils. At 1256 IST, the most-active November contract of crude palm oil was at 4,382 ringgits (INR 91,582.70) per tonne, down 2.2% from the previous close.
Palm oil imports, including processed oils, were at 49,036 tonnes, down nearly 20% from the previous month, according to the data.
