NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of coriander and turmeric fell while those of jeera were up on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Tuesday. Prices of turmeric fell as panic selling continued on expectations of higher output, while those of coriander slid on profit booking. Prices of jeera rose on short-covering.

The most active October contract of TURMERIC fell 0.2% to INR 12,078 per 100 kilograms as panic selling continued on expectations of higher output due to a rise in acreage, analysts at SMC Global Securities said. Preliminary estimates suggest a 15–20% increase in sowing this season, Kedia Advisory said in a note.

However, the fall in prices is likely to be limited due to concerns about immediate supply due to the recent spell of heavy rainfall over major producing regions and crop losses being reported across major belts, as per Kedia Advisory.

The most active September contract of JEERA rose 0.4% to INR 19,400 per 100 kg due to short-covering after prices fell for three consecutive days, analysts said. The upside in prices is likely to be limited due to huge carryover stocks and persistent selling pressure, SMC Global said.

The most active October contract of CORIANDER was down 0.2% at INR 8,250 per 100 kg as profit booking continued after prices rose beyond INR 8,500 per 100 kg mark last week, analysts said. However, prices are expected to rise in the short term as demand is expected to increase in the next 5–10 days, SMC Global said. Prices are likely to be supported due to supply disruptance in spot markets owing to heavy rainfall in most parts of the country, the brokerage added.
