MUMBAI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose $3.51 billion to $694.23 billion in the week ended Aug. 29, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. Foreign currency assets as on Aug. 29 stood at $583.94 billion, up $1.69 billion from the week earlier. Value of the central bank's gold holdings rose to $86.77 billion, up $1.77 billion from the previous week.
The central bank's foreign exchange reserves, calculated in dollar terms, also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, pound sterling, and yen, held by the RBI. In the week ended Aug. 29, the dollar index, which measures the strength of the dollar against a basket of six major currencies, rose marginally by 0.1%. End
