MUMBAI – India's spices exports rose 29% in Apr-Jun to 519,469.05 tonnes from 402,219.67 tonnes same period a year ago, data from the Spices Board of India showed. In terms of value, the exports were up 5% on year at $1.19 billion.

 

According to the data, India exported 62,860.75 tonnes of jeera in Apr-Jun, down 19% from the previous year. Exports of fennel fell the most during the period, by 74% to 8,907.42 tonnes. Exports of large cardamom in Apr-Jun were down 7% on year at 322.98 tonnes. Exports of other spices, which include asafoetida, cinnamon, cassia, cambodge, and saffron, fell by 29% to 12,400.80 tonnes in Apr-Jun, according to the data.

 

Celery exports fell 39% to 1,349.64 tonnes and nutmeg and mace exports fell 14% and export of mint-products, which include menthol, menthol crystals, and other mint oils, fell 18% to 5,424.14 tonnes, the data showed.

 

On the other hand, ginger exports rose by a whopping 371% to 49,077.79 tonnes in Apr-Jun, followed by chilli which jumped 94% to 221,029.29 tonnes, the spices board said. Coriander exports rose 14% on year during Apr-Jun to 19,100.51 tonnes and turmeric exports rose 3% to 47,949.56 tonnes, according to the data. Exports of small cardamom were 29% higher on year at 2,300.67 tonnes and exports of pepper rose 11% to 5,338.83 tonnes, it said. Garlic exports rose 9% on year to 12,147.31 tonnes, as per the data.
