MUMBAI – Prices of oilseeds were mixed in key markets across the country, traders said. Prices of mustard seed rose in one market as demand improved. Groundnut prices fell in one market but were steady in another, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 100 to INR 7,350-INR 7,375 per 100 kilograms as demand improved ahead of the Navratri festival at the end of September, according to a trader at the Marudhar Trading Agency. "Prices also rose tracking higher global prices and lower arrivals amid the ongoing monsoon season," he said. Arrivals of mustard seed across the country were at 250,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.
However, mustard seed prices in Kota fell INR 50 to INR 6,500 per 100 kg, and arrivals were at 4,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. "There is going to be firm demand a few days before the Navratri festival, when prices can rise (by) up to INR 500," he said.
GROUNDNUT prices at Gondal in Gujarat fell INR 200 to INR 4,300-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals of the oilseed in Gondal were at 8,310 bags, down from 11,610 bags the previous day, he said. Arrivals of the new crop have begun, but the pace will increase once the monsoon withdraws, Virvani said. Currently, the availability of cheaper imported palm oil is resulting in lower demand for groundnut, traders said.
In Ratlam in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, prices of groundnut were steady at INR 4,700-INR 5,700 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,400 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), same as the previous day, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal in Gujarat were steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,200 per 100 kg, said Virvani. Arrivals were at 15,400 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 22,400 bags the previous day, he said. Prices fell due to higher arriavsl, Porwal added. In Ratlam, soybean prices were steady at INR 3,900-INR 4,500 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 3,300 bags same as the previous day, Porwal said.
