MUMBAI – Wheat prices in Kota, Rajasthan, rose Wednesday due to fall in arrivals, traders said. However, prices of rice and maize were steady in key markets across the country due to lack of fresh cues, traders said.
Prices of WHEAT in Kota rose by INR 5-INR 10 to INR 2,610 per 100 kilograms as arrivals fell in the market. Arrivals fell to 2,000 bags (1 bag = 50 kg) from 3,000 bags Tuesday due to heavy rainfall in Rajasthan, local trader Aniket Mehta said.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in east Rajasthan for very heavy rainfall. An orange alert is for rainfall exceeding 115.6 millimeters and going up to 204.4 millimetres within 24 hours. The weather bureau sees very heavy rainfall in east Rajasthan till Friday and west Rajasthan during the weekend.
Wheat prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, remained unchanged at INR 2,850 per 100 kg, said local trader Gaurav Kochar. Wheat prices in Vashi market, Navi Mumbai, were steady at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kg, wholesaler trader Devendra Vora said.
MAIZE prices in Indore were steady at INR 2,330 per 100 kg, said Kochar. He said prices are likely to fall by INR 200 to INR 2,100 as arrival of the new crop has started. Kochar also said the current rainfall is unlikely to affect the standing crop.
Prices of 1401 and 1121 basmati RICE in Vashi market were steady at INR 7,500-INR 7,600 per 100 kg and INR 8,000-INR 8,300 per 100 kg, respectively, Vora said. According to reports, Punjab is likely to see a drop of 20-25% in basmati production in crop year 2025-26 (Jul-Jun) due to heavy rain and floods. Over 600,000 acres of basmati rice acreage has been hit by the recent heavy rains.
Prices of 5% broken rice were steady at INR 3,150 per 100 kg, Vora said. Prices of the premium non-basmati rice variety sona masoori were also steady at INR 4,600 per 100 kg at Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, local trader Ravi Shankar said. End
