Mixed; mustard prices up as demand rises ahead of festivals

MUMBAI – Prices of all oilseed were mixed in the key markets on Tuesday, said traders. Mustard prices rose in one of the markets as demand improved slightly, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose by INR 25 to INR 7,250-INR 7,275 per 100 kilograms as demand improved slightly as there is Navratri festival later this month, according to a trader at Marudhar trading agency. "Prices also rose tracking higher global prices and lower arrivals amid the ongoing monsoon season," he said. Arrivals of mustard seeds across the country were at 250,000 bags, same as the previous day, according to GGN Research.
Mustard seed prices in Kota were at INR 6,550 per 100 kg, same as the previous days and arrivals were at 5,000 bags, up 1,000 bags from the previous day, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. "There is going to be firm demand few days before Navratri festivals, when prices can rise (by) upto INR 500," he added.
GROUNDNUT prices at Gondal in Gujarat rose by INR 900 at INR 4,500-INR 5,200 per 100 kg due to arrival of good quality crop, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals of groundnut in Gondal were at 11,610 bags up from 11,040 bags the previous day, said Virvani. Arrivals of new crops have started, but the pace will increase once the monsoon stops, Virvani added. Availability of cheaper imported palm oil resulted in lower demand for the oilseed, traders said.
In Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, prices of groundnut were steady at INR 4,700-INR 5,700 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,400 bags (1 bag = 50 kgs), same as the previous day, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal in Gujarat were down INR 100 at INR 3,800-INR 4,200 per 100 kg, said Virvani. Arrivals were at 22,400 bags up from 11,500 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), the previous day, he said. Prices fell due to higher arriavsl, Porwal added. In Ratlam, soybean prices were steady at INR 3,900-INR 4,500 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 3,300 bags same as the previous day, Porwal said.
