MUMBAI – Prices of mustard and groundnut fell in domestic spot markets Friday due to low demand, traders said. Rising mustard arrivals in local markets also weighed on prices, they said. However, prices of soybean were due to a lack of new cues.
Prices of MUSTARD seed at Jaipur in Rajasthan fell by INR 100 to INR 7,200 per 100 kilograms due to need-based buying by millers and high arrivals, according to Marudha Trading Agency. Mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, were down by INR 200 to INR 6,600 per 100 kg. Arrivals rose by 2,000 bags to 7,000 bags, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader.
Demand is sluggish at the moment, as the oilseed arriving in the market has a high moisture content due to heavy rainfall in the state over the past 10 days, said Sameriya. Excess moisture degrades the oil, reducing the oil yield and making the seeds less valuable to buyers and processors.
GROUNDNUT prices at Gondal in Gujarat were down by INR 200 at INR 4,300-INR 5,200 per 100 kg due to low demand, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Availability of cheaper imported palm oil resulted in lower demand for the oilseed, traders said. However, lower arrivals in the domestic market are likely to restrict further downside in groundnut prices.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal were steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,400 per 100 kg due to lack of new cues, said Virvani. Arrivals were at 6,700 bags (1 bag = 50 kg), down from 9,400 bags on Thursday, he said. Arrivals fell due to heavy rainfall over the state, traders said.
