MUMBAI – Prices of mustard fell in key markets, while those of soybean and groundnut were steady, said traders. Oilseed prices are largely on a downward trend because of subdued demand. Demand is likely to revive ahead of Navratri, traders said.

Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 50 to INR 7,425-INR 7,450 per 100 kg as demand after Janmasthami was sluggish, traders said. Arrivals of the oilseed across India fell to 200,000 bags from 300,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) Friday, said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.

Mustard seed prices at Kota, also in Rajasthan, fell INR 50 to INR 6,850 per 100 kg. The arrivals were at 5,000 bags, down from 6,000 bags the previous day, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. "Prices are largely on a downtrend at the moment and are only likely to pick up ahead of the Navratri festival," he said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 4,100-INR 4,700 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were also steady at 5,100 bags, he said.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 5,000-INR 5,800 per 100 kg. Arrivals were also steady at 1,400 bags, Porwal said. Higher availability of cheaper imported palm oil could result in lower demand for the oilseed, thus pulling prices down, traders said.
