--RBI: India Aug 15 FX reserves $695.11 bln, up $1.49 bln on week

 

MUMBAI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose $1.49 billion on week to $695.11 billion for the week ended Aug. 15, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. Foreign currency assets as of Aug. 15 stood at $585.90 billion, up $1.92 billion from the previous week. The value of the central bank's gold holdings fell $493 million from the previous week to $85.67 billion As of Aug. 15.

 

The dollar index, which measures the strength of the dollar against a basket of six major currencies, strengthened nearly 0.9% in the week ended Aug. 15. The central bank's foreign exchange reserves, calculated in dollar terms, also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the RBI.  End
