MUMBAI – India received 8.3 millimetres of rainfall Friday, 4% above the normal of 8.0 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the southwest monsoon season, the country has recorded 2% above-normal rainfall at 650.3 millimetres.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal showers and one recorded below-normal rainfall. Rainfall in northwest India was 25% above normal at 7.1 millimetres while that in eastern and northeast India was 47% above normal at 17.8 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 9.3 millimetres of rainfall, 3% above normal. The southern peninsula recorded 85% below normal rain at 0.9 millimetres, data from the weather department showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Friday was "large excess" in seven subdivisions, "excess" in two, "normal" in four, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 16 subdivisions.  End
