MUMBAI – Prices of mustard were mixed in key markets across the country while those of groundnut and soybean fell, said traders. Prices of oilseed were down on weak demand after Janmasthami festival and availability of cheaper alternatives, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seeds held steady in Jaipur, Rajasthan, at INR 7,475-INR 7,500 per 100 kilograms as demand was need-based after the Janmashthami festival, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities trader. Prices were steady as millers had stocked up the oilseed ahead of the Janmashthami festival, traders said. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country fell to 300,000 bags from 325,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg) the previous day, said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.
On the other hand, in Kota, Rajasthan, mustard prices rose INR 50 to INR 6,850 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 6,000 bags, down 2,000 bags from the previous day, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal, Gujarat, fell by INR 100 to INR 3,800-INR 4,400 per 100 kg, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Arrivals were at 3,810 bags, down from 5,100 bags, the previous day, he said.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal fell by INR 200 to INR 4,500-INR 5,500 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,110 bags, down from 1,530 bags the previous day, said Virvani. Arrivals will fall hereon due to lower availability, he said. Higher availability of cheaper imported palm oil could lead to lower demand for the oilseed, traders said.
