MUMBAI – Prices of mustard fell in the key markets of Uttar Pradesh, while those of groundnut and soybean were steady, said traders. Prices were steady due to sluggish demand after mills bought a good quantity the previous day, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 25 to INR 7,500-INR 7,525 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities trader. Prices fell as millers stocked up on mustard seeds the previous day, so there was minimal demand on Thursday, traders said. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country fell to 340,000 bags from 360,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.
SOYBEAN prices in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 4,400-INR 4,950 per 100 kg. Arrivals were also steady at 2,200 bags. Prices could rise in the coming days due to lower arrivals amid higher demand from millers ahead of festivals, Porwal said. Soybean prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were unavailable as markets were shut ahead of Janmashthami, said local trader Ashok Virvani.
Harvest of the new soybean crop will start in the next two months, capping any gains during the festival season, said B.V. Mehta, executive director of the Solvent Extractors' Association of India.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were also steady at INR 4,800-INR 6,200 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,100 bags, the same as the previous day, said Porwal. Arrivals will fall hereon due to lower availability, he said. However, higher availability of cheaper imported palm oil will led to lower demand for the oilseed, traders said.
