MUMBAI – Farmers across the country have planted soybean over 11.52 million hectares as of Wednesday, mostly in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the Soybean Processors Association of India said. According to the government's latest available estimate, the oilseed has been planted on nearly 12.00 million hectares, SOPA said. Last year, soybean was sown across on 13.00 mlllion hectares, as per government data.
Soybean acreage has dipped 4% on year to 12.00 million hectares, according to the government data. Soybean acreage reduced amid continuous rains during the sowing window and due to shifting to other crops, SOPA said. It said the overall soybean crop condition is "normal" across the major soybean-growing states and 70% of the surveyed soybean area is at the flowering stage,
Excessive rainfall has led to unsown areas, delayed growth, and water logging in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the association said. "Continued field monitoring and timely crop management practices are essential to support the crop through the remaining stages of growth."
