MUMBAI – India's soymeal exports in July rose to 148,000 tonnes from 147,000 tonnes a year ago, up nearly 1%, the Soybean Processors Association of India said Wednesday. The cumulative exports of soymeal in Oct-Jul, the first 10 months of the edible oil year 2024–25, fell over 11% on year to 1.7 million tonnes, data from SOPA showed.
India exported soymeal to more than 70 countries from October to July, with Bangladesh, Nepal, Germany, France, Japan, and Kenya being the top buyers, according to the association. Soymeal production in July was unchanged from the year-ago period at 710,000 tonnes. Output in the first 10 months fell over 8% on year to 7.6 million tonnes a year ago.
Soybean arrivals in July were reported at 700,000 tonnes, lower than 900,000 tonnes a year ago. The arrivals in Oct–Jul fell to 9.6 million tonnes from 10.7 million tonnes a year ago, SOPA said.
Soybean crushing during Oct-Jul was 9.6 million tonnes, down from 10.5 million tonnes a year ago, SOPA estimates showed. Total soybean stocks as of Jul. 1 with agencies, oil mills, traders, and farmers were at 2.11 million tonnes, down from 3.04 million tonnes a month ago, data showed.
Soybean stocks with farmers, traders, and processing plants were at 1.5 million tonnes as of Jul. 1 and government agencies--National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India and National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India--were about 600,000 tonnes as of Monday, SOPA said. Soymeal stock at the end of July fell to 117,000 tonnes from 125,000 tonnes in June.
Soybean is crushed to extract soyoil, leaving the by-product, soymeal. This is primarily used as poultry and livestock feed. Indian soymeal is non-genetically modified and rich in protein, making it attractive in global feed markets. However, competitive pressure from cheaper feed alternatives such as distiller's dried grains with solubles weighed on exports. India is among the largest importers of soyoil and an exporter of soymeal. End
