MUMBAI – Prices of all oilseeds rose in key markets Wednesday on demand from millers ahead of the festival season, said traders.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 50 to INR 7,525-INR 7,550 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities trader. Prices rose as there was higher buying by millers, said a local trader. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country were steady at 360,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh rose INR 300 to INR 4,400-INR 4,950 per 100 kg. Arrivals were at 2,200 bags, down 300 bags from the previous day. Prices rose due to lower arrivals amid higher demand from millers ahead of festivals, Porwal said. In Gondal, Gujarat, soybean prices were unavailable as markets were shut ahead of Janmashthami, said local trader Ashok Virvani.
However, harvest of the new soybean crop is going to start in the next two months, capping any gains in prices during the festival season, said B.V. Mehta, executive director of the Solvent Extractors' Association of India.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam also rose by INR 200 to INR 4,800-INR 6,200 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,100 bags, down 250 bags from the previous day, said Porwal. Prices rose due to lower arrivals, said Porwal. Arrivals are going to fall hereon due to lesser availability, he said. However, higher availability of cheaper imported palm oil will cap the gains in prices of the oilseed, traders said.
