MUMBAI – Prices of all oilseeds were steady in key markets across the country, said traders. Prices of mustard and soybean were steady as there was limited demand from millers while those of groundnut were unchanged due to higher demand for cheaper imported palm oil, they said.

Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 7,475-INR 7,500 per 100 kg, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities trader. Prices were steady as demand was limited amid higher availability, traders said. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country fell to 360,000 bags from 375,000 bags the previous day (1 bag = 100 kg), said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.

In Kota, Rajasthan, mustard seed prices were unchanged at INR 6,950 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 7,000 bags, down 1,000 bags from the previous day, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 4,100-INR 4,900 per 100 kg. Arrivals were steady at 2,500 bags, said local trader Narendra Porwal. In Gondal, Gujarat, soybean prices were unavailable as markets were shut ahead of Janmashthami, said local trader Ashok Virvani.

Meanwhile, government agencies such as the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. and Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. are holding about 1.4 million tonnes of soybeans, which means there is ample quantity already available. Moreover, harvest of new soybean crop is going to start in the next two months, capping any gains in prices during the festival season, said B.V. Mehta, executive director of the Solvent Extractors' Association of India.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were also steady at INR 4,800-INR 6,000 per 100 kg and arrivals were at 1,350 bags, same as the previous day, said Porwal. Due to continuing import of cheaper palm oil, demand for groundnut is also likely to fall, traders said.
