MUMBAI – Prices of all pulses were steady in key spot markets across the country, traders said. Prices of chana were steady amid softening festival demand for the legume, though it is likely to revive in the short term, they said. Prices of tur were steady due to lack of cues and prices of moong were unchanged due to steady demand, they said.

CHANA prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 6,400-INR 6,450 per 100 kg, said Kaliash Kakani, a local trader. Though there is some demand for the legume, it is not substantial enough to raise prices, he said. Festival demand for the legume has softened, with millers having stocked up for festivals just around the corner, such as Janmasthami, he said. Additionally, stockists have begun offloading their stocks to take advantage of the higher rates, keeping prices from rising further, he said.

However, festival demand for chana dal, or processed chana, and besan is likely to rise again in the short term, Kakani said. A string of festivals will fall one after the other in the upcoming months, such as Navratri and Dusshera, which is expected to keep prices firm, he said. Prices could rise by INR 100-INR 200 per 100 kg in the near term, he said.

Prices of chana in Bikaner, Rajasthan, were steady at INR 5,950 per 100 kg, traders said.

TUR prices in Solapur, Maharashtra, were steady at INR 6,400-INR 6,500 per 100 kg, said Mukeash Sanklecha, a local trader. About 24–25 trucks with 20,000-25,000 kg each of tur arrived in the market, he said. Prices are steady amid a lack of cues, he said. Though there are ample arrivals of the legume, prices are unlikely to fall further as the market is resisting lower prices, he said.

Prices of tur are currently trading at the bottom, holding above an average of INR 6,200-INR 6,250 per 100 kg across the country, and are unlikely to fall further, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report on Monday.

Prices of tur in Katni, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 6,850-INR 6,950 per 100 kg, according to the association.

MOONG prices in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, were steady at INR 6,500-INR 7,500 per 100 kg, according to the association. Prices of moong in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were also steady at INR 6,900-INR 7,200 per 100 kg. Prices of moong are flat amid steady demand for the legume, Sanklecha said.

Prices are likely to fall in another month once the new kharif crop begins hitting markets across the country, he added. Arrivals of the new kharif crop have already begun in the Kalaburagi market in Karnataka, though in small quantities, he said.  End
