NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of turmeric fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Friday while those of coriander and jeera were flat. Turmeric futures have been falling on higher arrivals in domestic markets, analysts said. Jeera was flat on low trading activity in domestic markets ahead of Raksha Bandhan, while coriander prices were steady as traders were cautious at elevated prices, they said.

The most-active August contract of TURMERIC was down 0.4% at INR 13,030 per 100 kilograms on higher arrivals and subdued demand in physical markets, analysts said. Farmers have accelerated offloading stocks amid expectations of increased acreage following favourable rainfall in key growing regions, adding to the pressure on prices, analysts said. Arrivals on Thursday rose to 13,660 quintals compared to 11,940 quintals in the previous session, reflecting improved market availability, Kedia advisory said in a note.

The most-active August contract of JEERA was flat at INR 18,900 per 100 kg due to low trading activity ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival. Rising selling pressure as traders sell stocks at higher levels, lower prices in China, as well as ample stock availability, are adding to the downward pressure, SMC Global said in a note. However, downside pressure may be limited due to seasonal demand, analysts said.

The most-active August contract of CORIANDER was flat at INR 7,832 per 100 kg as traders were cautious at elevated price levels following recent gains driven by limited supply and rising demand from processors and exporters, according to SMC Global. Arrivals from key producing states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat have significantly declined, it said. Considering the current market conditions, prices are expected to stay firm in the short to medium term, the brokerage added.
