MUMBAI – Prices of all pulses remained steady across major spot markets amid subdued trading activity, traders said. Many participants stayed away from the market ahead of Raksha Bandhan on Saturday. In the short term, chana prices are expected to rise on the back of festival demand while tur is likely in a range. Prices of masur are expected to rise in the near term due to a decline in arrivals, they said.

CHANA prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, held steady at INR 6,425-INR 6,450 per 100 kilogram, said Raja Jain, a local trader. Prices remained steady amid subdued market activity, as many participants stayed away due to festive celebrations, he said. With Raksha Bandhan falling on Saturday, several traders have already closed shop for the long weekend, he added.

Prices of chana are expected to rise in the near term as festival demand is likely to persist, Jain said. The demand for chana dal or processed chana and besan gram flour for Janmashtami, Navratri, and Dusshera is likely to keep prices on elevated levels, he said. However, a steep rise in prices is unlikely as stockists have begun offloading their stocks in the market to take advantage of the higher prices, he said.

Prices of chana in Delhi were steady at INR 6,375-INR 6,400 per 100 kg, traders said.

TUR prices in Akola, Maharashtra, held steady at INR 6,925-INR 6,950 per 100 kg, said Ashok Gupta, a local trader. Prices are steady amid low market activity, with many participants away for festivities, he said.

Prices are likely to remain range bound in the near term, Gupta said. Even though the market is receiving ample arrivals, sellers will resist lower rates as prices have already fallen steeply from the minimum support price of INR 7,550 per 100 kg for the 2024-25 kharif marketing season (Oct-Sept).

Prices of tur in Katni, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 6,850-INR 6,950 per 100 kg, according to the India Pulses and Grains Association.

MASUR prices in Indore were stable at INR 6,200-INR 6,250 per 100 kg, said Jain. Similar to other pulses, low market activity is keeping prices flat, he said. Prices could rise by INR 200 per 100 kg in the near term due to drop in arrivals, he said. Farmers had sold most of their crop to the government and the stocks left with them currently are also dwindling, he said.

Prices of the choti variety of masur in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, fell INR 150 from the previous day to INR 6,200-INR 6,600 per 100 kg, the association said. Prices of the moti variety of masur in Lalitpur rose by INR 100 from Thursday to INR 8,000-INR 8,500 per 100 kg.  End
