Wheat prices up in Kota on festival demand; rice, maize steady

MUMBAI – Prices of rice and maize were steady and those of wheat were mixed at key spot markets across the country, traders said. Wheat prices were steady in most markets, but rose in the Kota market due to festival demand, they said. Prices of rice were steady and those of maize are expected to fall in the medium term, they said.
WHEAT prices in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 2,880 per 100 kilograms, said Gaurav Kochar, a local trader. Prices of the staple grain in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, were also steady at INR 2,800-INR 2,825 per 100 kg, said Devendra Vora, a wholesale dealer. Similarly, prices of the grain in Delhi were flat at INR 2,850 per 100 kg, traders said.
Market participants are awaiting the government's announcement of open-market sales of wheat, Vora said. The government typically begins wheat sales in the open market in July or August. The government has set a reserve price of INR 2,550 per 100 kg for wheat open market sales in rabi marketing year 2025-26.
Prices of wheat in Kota, Rajasthan, rose by INR 15 to INR 2,625 per 100 kg, said Aniket Mehta, a local trader. Prices of the grain are slightly up due to festival demand, he said. Prices are likely to rise further, though not steeply, with a string of major festivals, such as Raksha Bandhan, Navratri, Dusshera, and so on, he said.
Prices of 1401 basmati RICE in Vashi were steady at INR 7,300-INR 7,400 per 100 kg, Vora said. Prices of the 1121 basmati rice variety were also steady at INR 7,800-INR 8,000 per 100 kg. With steady demand expected for a while prices are likely to remain stable in the short term, Vora said.
MAIZE prices in Indore were steady at INR 2,300 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Prices could touch the INR 2,000 per 100 kg mark in the medium term as the market is expected to come under the pressure of the arrivals of the new kharif maize crop, he said. End
