NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices traded on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange rose Monday. While turmeric and jeera contracts rose on seasonal demand, coriander prices climbed on limited supply.
The most active August contract of TURMERIC rose 0.3% at INR 13,160 per 100 kilograms, supported by seasonal demand from processors and millers taking cues from the upcoming festive season demand, analysts at SMC Global said. The rise comes after more than a month, as increased arrivals and subdued demand from processing units kept market prices under check since June.
The brokerage expects prices to remain firm, supported by tight supply conditions and an empty pipeline. Expected seasonal demand from August is also likely to be market supportive going ahead, they said.
The most active August contract of JEERA rose 0.4% to INR 19,190 per 100 kg due to a rise in buying interest on seasonal demand, SMC Global said. Prices had remained under pressure for a prolonged period due to muted demand and steady arrivals across major markets like Unjha, Rajkot, and Gondal. As Jeera prices are currently at lower levels, seasonal demand may push up the prices for the time being, despite the eased supply side, they said.
The most active August contract of CORIANDER was up 0.4% at INR 7,828 per 100 kg as due to limited supply and rising demand from domestic processors and exporters, SMC Global said. Arrivals from key producing states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat have declined significantly, resulting in consistently low daily inflows and tightening availability in markets, the brokerage said. Given the current scenario, coriander prices are expected to remain firm, it said.
