MUMBAI – The government has amended the Vegetable Oil Products Production and Availability (Regulation) Order, 2011, to impose stricter registration and reporting requirements to enhance transparency, according to a notification by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Under the 2025 Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability Regulation Order, notified on Aug. 1 by the ministry, producers will face stricter registration and reporting requirements. They must apply for registration certificates through the Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils in New Delhi, providing details such as factory location and production capacity, the notification said.
Following this amendment, all producers will have to furnish monthly reports by the 15th of each month, which details the use, production, sale, and stocks of oil with them in the past one month. The amendment also strengthens enforcement mechanisms, as the director of the Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils will be empowered to inspect factories, demand information, and seize stocks if false reporting is suspected, the notification said.
The amendments came into force on the date of the publication of the notification. End
