India July diesel consumption up 2.15% YoY, down 9% on month at 7.35 mln tn

MUMBAI – India's consumption of diesel in July fell 9% on month to 7.35 million tonnes from 8.11 million tonnes in June, according to data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. However, it rose 2.15% from 7.19 million tonnes consumed last year, the data showed.

 

The country's consumption of petrol fell 1% on month to 3.48 million tonnes from 3.52 million tonnes in June, though it rose 5.5% from nearly 3.30 million tonnes a year ago, according to the data. Jet fuel consumption in July was 707,000 tonnes, down 3% on month from 730,000 tonnes in June, and down 2.75% from 727,000 tonnes last year, the data showed. The usage of liquified petroleum gas, or LPG, in July was 2.87 million tonnes, up 14% on month and 5% on year.

 

Petrol consumption during the first four months of 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) rose 6.68% on year to 14.23 million tonnes, according to the data. Similarly, the the usage of diesel was up 2.52% on year at 32.31 million tonnes, while jet fuel use grew 2.21% on year to 2.98 million tonnes in the same period. Liquified petroleum gas usage in the first four months of FY26 was up 8.71% on year at 10.93 million tonnes. End
