NEW DELHI – The Centre has paid INR 3.33 trillion to farmers under the minimum support price scheme as of June end in 2024-25 (Apr–Mar), up from INR 2.63 trillion last year, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha Friday.
The increase in MSP payouts comes alongside the rise in procurement volumes. As of Jun. 30, the government has procured 117.5 million tonnes of various crops, compared with 108.9 million tonnes in 2023-24 and 111.8 million tonnes in 2022-23.
These payments reflect the government's commitment to ensure farmers receive remunerative prices, the minister said. The MSP is mandated for 22 crops and is set annually based on recommendations from the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, ensuring a return of at least 50% over the weighted average cost of production.
