GGN Research sees India's July edible oil imports marginally up on month

MUMBAI – India's edible oil imports in July are estimated at 1.55 million tonnes, up 1% from the previous month. This marks the highest monthly imports in eight months, according to estimates by GGN Research accessed by Informist.
In June, the country's edible oil imports were 1.53 million tonnes, out of vegetable oil imports of 1.55 million tonnes for the month, according to data from The Solvent Extractors' Association of India. The import of non-edible oils during June was 18,497 tonnes, the association said. Edible oil imports during Nov-Jun were at 9.2 million tonnes, compared with 10.1 million tonnes a year ago, according to the association.
Palm oil imports are expected to decline 11% on month and 21% on year to 855,000 tonnes in July, according to estimates by GGN Research. "Crude palm oil imports (are likely to) reach a one-year high. Refined bleached and deodorised palmolein imports (are likely to) hit a four-year low," Rajesh Patel, managing partner at GGN research, said.
Sunflower oil imports are estimated to have decreased by 8% on month to 199,000 tonnes in July, according to the estimates. Soyoil imports are estimated to have risen to a three-year high of 493,000 tonnes in June, up 37% on month and 26% on year, the data showed.
As of Aug. 1, more vessels were set to arrive at Indian ports in the next few days, carrying 395,000 tonnes of edible oil. Of this, 225,000 tonnes is palm oil, 130,000 tonnes is soyoil, and 40,000 tonnes is sunflower oil, according to GGN Research.
In July, Nepal's edible oils import through Indian ports totalled 83,000 tonnes, comprising 75,000 tonnes of soyoil, 4,000 tonnes of sunflower oil and 4,000 tonnes of palm oil, Patel said. In June India imported 63,000 tonnes of soybean oil, 10,000 tonnes of sunflower oil and 2,000 tonnes of palm oil from Nepal excluding the total imports. End
