NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves rose to $698.19 billion as of Jul. 25, up $2.70 billion from the previous week, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. Reserves rose after declining for three consecutive weeks, possibly due to revaluation gains.
The dollar index, which measures the strength of the dollar against a basket of six major currencies, declined 0.8% in the week ended Jul. 25. Calculated in dollar terms, the central bank's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, held by the RBI.
Foreign currency assets as of Jul. 25 were at $588.93 billion, up $1.32 billion from the previous week. The value of the central bank's gold holdings rose $1.21 billion from the previous week to $85.70 billion. End
