NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of coriander and turmeric fell while those of jeera were up on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Thursday. Turmeric futures fell on higher arrivals in domestic markets, and prices of coriander fell as traders booked profits at high prices. Prices of jeera were up because of buying interest at lower rates.

The most-active August contract of TURMERIC was down 1.2% at INR 12,760 per 100 kg due to higher arrivals and subdued demand in the physical markets, analysts said. Farmers have accelerated offloading stocks in anticipation of higher acreage this year, adding to the pressure on prices, SMC Global said. Prices are expected to remain under pressure until demand from millers and processors picks up, as they are currently operating with limited inventories, the brokerage said.

The most-active August contract of JEERA rose for a third straight day by 1.0% to INR 19,000 per 100 kg, supported by improved buying interest at prevailing price levels, SMC Global said. Prices had remained under pressure for a prolonged period due to muted demand and steady arrivals across major markets like Unjha, Rajkot, and Gondal, despite abundant stock availability, the brokerage said.

Additionally, subdued demand from the Gulf region and Bangladesh had also contributed to the bearish sentiment, SMC analysts said. Given the current scenario, any sharp price spikes are likely to be short-lived, with the market expected to remain in a corrective phase over the long term owing to easy availability amidst need-based purchasing interest, they said.

The most-active August contract of CORIANDER was down 1.2% at INR 7,746 per 100 kg as traders booked profits after prices of the spice rose for three straight days, SMC Global analysts said. However, the downside may be limited as arrivals from key producing states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat have declined significantly, the brokerage said.
