India Jul 18-28 pulses imports via Chennai port 20,825 tn, says trade body

MUMBAI – India imported 20,825 tonnes of pulses through the Chennai port from Jul. 18-28, according to data released by the India Pulses and Grains Association. The collective imports of pulses from Myanmar were the highest at 18,225 tonnes, making up nearly 88% of India's total imports.
Most of the imports comprised urad and tur shipments, primarily from Myanmar, due to a bumper crop there. Tur imports were the highest among all pulses at 10,425 tonnes, accounting for 50% of the total shipments. These include 9,925 tonnes from Myanmar and 500 tonnes from Nigeria, the data showed.
India imported 7,725 tonnes of urad during the period. The country imported 7,400 tonnes of urad from Myanmar and 325 tonnes from Brazil, according to the data. Total masur imports stood at 1,050 tonnes, with 800 tonnes shipped from Canada and 250 tonnes from Australia, the data showed.
Imports of other pulses included 450 tonnes of rajma from Myanmar and Egypt, 125 tonnes of cow peas from Mozambique, 200 tonnes of lima beans from Madagascar, and 250 tonnes of brown eye beans from Brazil. India also imported 550 tonnes of bocate beans and 50 tonnes of black eye beans from Myanmar, the data showed.
During the period, 833 containers landed at the Chennai port, of which 729 were from Myanmar, the data showed. End
