MUMBAI – Prices of mustard rose Wednesday in key markets across the country due to low arrivals because of heavy rains, traders said. Prices of soybean and groundnut were steady from the previous day due to lack of new cues, they added.
Prices of MUSTARD seed at Jaipur, Rajasthan, were up by INR 25 at INR 7,600-INR 7,625 per 100 kg as arrivals fell from the previous day, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities' trader. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country were down by 100,000 bags at 300,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.
In Kota, Rajasthan, prices of the oilseed were up by INR 150 at INR 7,251 per 100 kg. The arrivals were down by 1,000 bags at 3,000 bags, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. "Arrivals are lower as farmers were unable to reach mandis with the crops due to heavy rainfall in several parts of Rajasthan," Sameriya said.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall over east Rajasthan for Wednesday. A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning.
SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were steady from the previous day at INR 3,900-INR 4,550 per 100 kg. Arrivals were down by 500 bags at 3,300 bags, said local trader Narendra Porwal. Lower export demand for inferior quality soybeans is likely to keep the prices range bound, traders said.
GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady from the previous day at INR 4,700-INR 5,850 per 100 kg, and arrivals were down by 200 bags at 1,500 bags, said Porwal. Prices of groundnut in Gondal were steady at INR 4,500-INR 5,400 per 100 kg while arrivals fell to 390 bags from the previous day. Groundnut arrivals are low because of rain, Virvani said. Arrivals are going to fall from here on as there is less crop available, he said.
