--MCX cardamom August futures contract opens at INR 2,800/100 kg on debut

--CONTEXT: MCX launches cardamom futures contract on Tuesday

MUMBAI – After a hiatus of four years, cardamom futures contracts resumed trading on Multi Commodity Exchange of India on Tuesday. The August contract opened at INR 2,800 per 100 kilogram and the September contract of the spice opened at INR 2,853 per 100 kg.

The exchange had discontinued cardamom futures contracts in August 2021 following a circular issued by the Securities and Exchange Board of India.

The exchange had issued a circular on Thursday announcing the launch of cardamom contracts for August, September, and October simultaneously. The symbol of the cardamom futures contract is 'CARDAMOM'. The trading unit is 100 kg and the maximum order size will be 50 times the trading unit. The tick size or the minimum price movement will be INR 1 per kg.

The initial margin will be a minimum of 10% or based on the standard portfolio analysis of risk. In case of additional volatility, "an additional margin (on both buy & sell side) and/or special margin (on either buy or sell side) at such percentage, as deemed fit, will be imposed in respect of all outstanding positions," according to the circular.

The maximum allowable open position for individual clients will be 100 tonnes and that for a member will be 1,000 tonnes or 15% of the market-wide open position, whichever is higher, it said. The delivery centre is at the exchange's warehouse at Vandanmedu in Kerala's Idukki district.

At 0925 IST, the August contract of the spice was trading at INR 2,876 per 100 kg.  End
