MUMBAI – Price of mustard fell in key markets across the country on Wednesday while soybean and groundnut prices were steady, traders said. Prices of oilseeds are likely to remain range-bound or fall due to sluggish demand for edible oil currently, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, fell INR 75 to INR 7,450-INR 7,475 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities trader. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country were at 400,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), same as the previous day, said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.
Mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, fell INR 100 to INR 6,800 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 9,000 bags, down 3,000 bags from the previous day, he said.
SOYBEAN prices at Gondal in Gujarat were steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,000 per 100 kg, with arrivals at 3,930 bags, same as the previous day, said Ashok Virvani, a local trader. Prices of the oilseed are likely to remain at current levels for the next one or two months as both domestic and export demand are weak at the moment, traders said. Export demand is low because the quality of domestic soybeans is inferior to that from America, they added.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal were steady at INR 4,500-INR 5,500 per 100 kg, said Virvani. Like soybean, groundnut prices are expected to fall in the medium term due to weak demand on account of the increasing availability of cheaper imported palm oil, commonly used as a substitute for groundnut oil in cooking.
