MUMBAI – A cyclonic circulation, which is a remnant of tropical cyclone Wipha, is likely to emerge over north Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours and under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to form over the same region in the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department said Wednesday.
The weather department said extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha on Friday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of east and central India till Tuesday. These weather conditions are caused by an upper cyclonic circulation over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and a trough running from northeast Arabian Sea to the cyclonic circulation.
A red alert has been issued in coastal Karnataka till Friday because of extremely heavy rainfall during the same period. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of southern India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Telangana is likely to receive very heavy rainfall till Thursday.
Extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of Konkan and central Maharashtra on Thursday and Friday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of west India till Tuesday. The weather bureau also issued a red alert in Odisha for Friday due to extremely heavy rainfall. A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning.
The weather bureau said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of east and central India till Monday. Owing to this, the bureau has issued an orange alert over parts of central and east India till Sunday.
