MUMBAI – Prices of mustard rose across key markets Monday while groundnut and soybean prices were steady, said traders. Prices of mustard rose due to improved demand. On other hand, prices of other oilseeds remained unchanged amid limited buying, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 50 to INR 7,575-INR 7,600 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities trader. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country were steady at 375,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.
Mustard seed prices in Kota, Rajasthan, rose INR 100 to INR 7,000 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 8,000 bags, up 2,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Prices went up due to an increase in demand, Sameriya said.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal, Gujarat, were also steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,100 per 100 kg, with arrivals at 17,700 bags up from 12,200 bags the previous day (1 bag = 100 kg), said Asok Virvani, a local trader. Prices of the oilseed are likely to remain at the current levels for the next one or two months as both domestic and export demand are weak at the moment, traders said. Export demand is low as the quality of domestic soybeans is poor compared to those from America, they added.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal were steady at INR 4,500-INR 5,600 per 100 kg, with arrivals at 3,630 bags, down from 4,980 bags the previous day, Virvani said. Like soybean, groundnut prices are expected to fall in the medium term due to weak demand on account of the increasing availability of cheaper imported palm oil, commonly used as a substitute for groundnut oil in cooking.
