MUMBAI – Prices of mustard rose across key markets Friday, while groundnut and soybean prices were steady, said traders. Prices of mustard were firm due to improved demand and higher global prices, while on the other hand, prices of other oilseeds were unchanged amid need-based buying, they said.

Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, rose INR 175 to INR 7,525-INR 7,550 per 100 kilograms, according to Marudhar Trading Agency, an agricultural commodities trader. Prices rose tracking higher global rates, a trader said. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country were steady at 375,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.

Mustard seed prices at Kota in Rajasthan rose INR 100 to INR 6,900 per 100 kg, said Mahesh Sameriya, a local trader. Arrivals were at 6,000 bags, down 3,000 bags from the previous day, he said. Prices rose due to lower arrivals amid an increase in demand, Sameriya said.

SOYBEAN prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh were stable at INR 3,900-INR 4,300 per 100 kg, Narendra Porwal, a local trader, said. Arrivals were at 3,400 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), the same as the previous day, he said. Prices of the oilseed are likely to remain at the current levels for the next one or two months as both domestic and export demand are weak at the moment, Porwal said. Export demand is low as the quality of domestic soybeans is poor compared to those from America, he added.

Soybean prices at Gondal in Gujarat were also steady at INR 3,800-INR 4,100 per 100 kg, with arrivals at 12,200 bags, down from 16,900 bags the previous day, said Asok Virvani, a local trader.

GROUNDNUT prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 4,700-INR 5,700 per 100 kg, with arrivals at 1,600 bags, up 300 bags from the previous day, Virvani said. Like soybean, groundnut prices are expected to decline in the medium term due to weak demand on account of the increasing availability of cheaper imported palm oil, commonly used as a substitute for groundnut oil in cooking.

Groundnut prices in Gondal were steady at INR 4,600-INR 5,500 per 100 kg, with arrivals at 4,980 bags, up from 1,890 bags the previous day, Virvani said.
