NEW DELHI – The US Department of Agriculture has slightly raised its global oilseed production estimate for 2025–26 to 693.5 million tonnes, up by 1.2 million tonnes from the last month's projection, led by higher output in Ukraine. Global consumption and ending stocks are also projected to increase, the USDA said in its July report.
Global consumption is projected to increase to 581.8 million tonnes, up 800,000 tonnes from last month. World oilseed supply is projected at 836.8 million tonnes, up 2.4 million tonnes, while ending stocks are estimated at 145.2 million tonnes, up 1.1 million tonnes from June.
In the oilseed basket, the USDA has forecast a higher global soybean supply, increased crush, lower exports, and higher ending stocks for 2025-26. Global soybean crush is expected to rise to 367.7 million tonnes, up 1.1 million tonnes, mainly due to higher demand from the US, Ukraine, and Turkey, partially offset by a decline in India, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia, the report said.
As a result of more soybean crushing, global soymeal trade is expected to rise with higher imports for Colombia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Vietnam, the report said.
Meanwhile, global soybean exports are revised downward to 187.6 million tonnes from 188.4 million tonnes, with US shipments trimmed due to stronger domestic crush demand and stiff competition from Brazil and Argentina.
For India, soymeal production is expected to decline to 8.9 million tonnes from 9.1 million tonnes projected last month. However, imports are not estimated to be higher amid a reduction in domestic consumption--to 7.5 million tonnes from nearly 7.7 million tonnes last month.
Though world vegetable oil production is estimated to be higher at 235.1 million tonnes, up from 235.0 million tonnes, global vegetable oil ending stocks are now projected at 29.7 million tonnes, down from 30 million tonnes last year, reflecting strong biofuel-driven demand. End
