NEW DELHI – The government has set a reserve price of INR 2,550 per 100 kg for open market sales of wheat in 2025-26 season. The price will be applicable across all crop years, including the recently procured rabi crop, and sales will be made via e-auctions to private buyers, according to a letter from the Department of Food and Public Distribution to the Food Corp. of India.
The department has also released the reserve prices for rice, bajra, ragi, jowar, and maize under the open market sale scheme. The reserve prices are valid till Jun. 30, 2026, the letter said.
The quantity and timing of wheat and rice sales under open market sales will be decided by FCI in consultation with the department, keeping in mind buffer stock norms and additional contingency quotas, the letter said. The government aims to offload excess stocks through open market sales to stabilise market prices, without affecting procurement and public distribution obligations.
The government will sell broken rice at a reserve price of INR 2,320 per 100kg , 25% broken rice at INR 2,890 per 100 kg, and custom-milled rice with 10% broken grain will be sold at INR 3,090 per 100 kg under open market sales.
FCI can offload 5.2 million tonnes of rice for ethanol production to distillers without participating in the e-auction at INR 2,320 per 100 kg. These reserve prices of all rice varieties will be effective from Nov. 1 to Jun. 30, the letter said.
From Jul. 1, the government has discontinued the INR 200 per 100 kg subsidy from the Price Stabilisation Fund that was earlier offered for rice sold under the 'Bharat' brand by central cooperatives, the letter added. The government sells rice under the 'Bharat' brand to increase supplies in the retail market at affordable rates through outlets of Kendriya Bhandar, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India, and National Consumers' Cooperatives Federation.
The government has also set reserve prices for bajra at INR 2,775 per 100 kg, ragi at INR 4,886 per 100 kg, jowar at INR 3,749 per 100 kg, and maize at INR 2,400 per 100 kg to be sold through e-auctions to private parties. End
