India May tea production rises 40% on year to 130.60 mln kg, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India's tea production rose 40% on year to 130.60 million kilogram in May, according to provisional data released by the Tea Board India. The country had produced 93.16 million kg tea in May 2024. During Jan-May, total tea production was around 336.22 million kg, according to the data.
Tea production in north Indian states jumped nearly 32% on year, reaching 104.37 million kg in May. Assam contributed nearly 60% of the total output from north India, while West Bengal accounted for nearly 37% of it, the data showed. West Bengal's production rose 47% from a year-ago period.
In north India, Assam produced 62.59 million kg of tea in May while West Bengal's output stood at 38.27 million kg. For the Jan-May period, total tea output in north India was at 240.29 million kg.
Tea production in south Indian states rose over 88% on year to 26.23 million kg in May. Karnataka produced 430,000 kg of tea while Kerala produced 7.03 million kg, up over 97% on year, the data showed. Tamil Nadu's tea production rose nearly 90% to 18.77 million kg. In south India, total output during the first five months of 2025 was at 95.93 million kg. End
