MUMBAI – Prices of mustard rose in key markets, while those of aoybean and groundnut were mixed, traders said. Prices of oilseeds are unlikely to fluctuate much as there is little demand at the moment. Prices will only increase ahead of the festival season, they said.
Prices of MUSTARD seed in Jaipur, Rajasthan, were up INR 100 at INR 7,175-INR 7,200 per 100 kg, according to commodities trader Marudhar Trading Agency. Arrivals of the oilseed across the country were steady at 400,000 bags, said Rajesh Patel of GGN Research.
SOYBEAN prices in Gondal, Gujarat, rose INR 100 from the previous day to INR 3,800-INR 4,200 per 100 kg, local trader Ashok Virvani said. Arrivals were steady at 16,700 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), he said. Soybean prices are expected to decline as demand shifts to more affordable palm oil, experts said.
Prices of soybean in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, were steady at INR 3,900-INR 4,300 per 100 kg, said local trader Narendra Porwal. Arrivals were also steady at 3,300 bags, he said.
GROUNDNUT prices in Gondal fell INR 200 to INR 4,500-INR 5,100 per 100 kg, with arrivals down at 1,680 bags from 3,000 bags the previous day, Virvani said. Groundnut prices are expected to decline in the medium term, as demand remains weak on increasing availability of cheaper imported palm oil, which is commonly used as a substitute for groundnut oil in cooking.
In Ratlam, prices of groundnut were steady at INR 4,700-INR 5,700 per 100 kg, said Porwal. Arrivals were also steady at 1,900 bags, he added.
