MUMBAI – Futures contracts of turmeric and jeera fell, while those of coriander rose on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Monday. Prices of turmeric and jeera fell owing to sluggish demand. Prices of coriander rose on hopes of renewed export demand from West Asia.

The most-active August contract of TURMERIC was down 2.6% at INR 13,046 per 100 kg, falling for the third consecutive session on weak demand, analysts at SMC Global Securities said. Prices were also weighed down by expectations of higher acreage for the crop year 2025-26 (Jul-Jun) due to the favourable monsoon conditions. Initial estimates hint at a 15-20% increase in turmeric acreage as farmers move away from other crops with lower profit margins, Kedia Advisory said.

The most-active July contract of JEERA fell 1.1% to INR 19,510 per 100 kg on subdued demand and increased selling pressure, SMC Global said. The market is likely to encounter resistance at INR 20,600–INR 20,700 per 100 kg, as abundant availability of stock and active selling by farmers and traders may limit significant upward movement, the brokerage said.

Production prospects remain steady, with estimates pegging jeera output for 2025-26 at 900,000-920,000 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), slightly lower than last year's 11 million bags owing to a fall in acreage, Kedia Advisory said. Major producing states Gujarat and Rajasthan are estimated to contribute 420,000–450,000 bags and 480,000–500,000 bags, respectively, it said.

The most-active July contract of CORIANDER was up 0.2% at INR 7,214 per 100 kg on hopes of renewed export demand and easing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Export demand from the region has picked up again after the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Kedia Advisory said. Coriander exports in April rose 27% on year to 654,000 tonnes from 513,000 tonnes last year, data from the commerce ministry showed.
