NEW DELHI – Futures contracts of all spices fell on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Friday. Prices of turmeric and jeera fell on weak demand in domestic markets, while those of coriander fell amid continued selling by growers, analysts of SMC Global Securities said in a note.

The most-active August contract of TURMERIC fell 1.4% to INR 13,408 per 100 kg, declining for the third consecutive day due to weak demand, analysts at SMC Global Securities said. Prospects of an increase in acreage also helped the fall. Sowing of turmeric is expected to have started in June with the early onset of the southwest monsoon. A revival in demand is expected from August, with factors like the depleted supply pipeline expected to support prices over the long term, the brokerage said.

The most-active July contract of JEERA declined 1.4% to INR 19,685 per 100 kg owing to subdued demand and selling pressure. "The market is expected to face resistance around the INR 20,600–20,700 per 100 kg range, as ample stock availability and selling interest from growers and traders may cap further upside," SMC Global said. Additionally, any further price rise could trigger increased selling pressure, weighing on overall market sentiment, it said.

The most-active July contract of CORIANDER fell 0.2% at INR 7,168 per 100 kg owing to weak buying and continued selling by growers, SMC Global said. Weak fundamentals like large carry-over stocks, along with continued selling, are likely to keep market prices under pressure, they said. However, the downside may be restricted owing to the ceasefire in West Asia, which is likely to improve export demand.
