MUMBAI – India received 10.8 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 31% above the normal of 8.2 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Three of the four homogeneous regions across the country received above-normal rainfall, while one recorded below-normal showers.
Rainfall in south peninsular India was 61% above normal at 9.5 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 60% above normal at 15.3 millimetres. Northwestern India received 54% above-normal rainfall at 7.7 millimetres. Eastern and northeastern India recorded 8.5 millimetres of rainfall, 39% below the normal of 13.7 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Thursday was "large excess" in 13, "excess" in three, "normal" in four, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in seven, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 210.8 millimetres of rain, 12% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed. End
