MUMBAI – Maize prices were up at Indore in Madhya Pradesh Thursday due to low arrivals and firm demand, traders said. Prices of wheat and rice were steady due to a lack of fresh cues, traders said.
Prices of MAIZE in Indore were up INR 30 at INR 2,300 per 100 kilograms, local trader Gaurav Kochar said. Prices rose as there were no arrivals of rabi maize, and the next maize crop will only start arriving in markets after October, he said. Also, there is firm demand for the grain from ethanol plants, he added. Kochar expects maize prices to rise to INR 2,400 per 100 kg in the medium term.
Prices of WHEAT in Indore were largely steady at INR 2,735 per 100 kg, Kochar said. The price of the staple grain in Navi Mumbai's Vashi market was also steady at INR 2,725 per 100 kg, local wholesale dealer Devendra Vora said.
