MUMBAI – Prices of chana, tur and masur were steady Wednesday in key spot markets in the country, traders said. Prices of tur and masur are likely to rise in the short term due to a fall in arrivals, as farmers are busy with kharif crop sowing, they said.

CHANA prices at Indore in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 5,950-INR 6,000 per 100 kg, said Gaurav Kochar, a local trader. "Demand is matching the available supply, so there is no major movement in prices," he said. Prices could rise by INR 50-INR 100 per 100 kg due to seasonal demand during the monsoon, he said. However, a further rise in prices could be limited due to the availability of imported yellow peas, a cheaper alternative to chana, he said. In 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), India imported 2.16 million tonnes of yellow peas, up 85%. Imports of yellow peas were the highest among all pulses.

Prices of chana at Akola in Maharashtra were also steady at INR 5,975-INR 6,000 per 100 kg, traders said.

TUR prices at Solapur in Maharashtra were steady at INR 6,750-INR 6,850 per 100 kg, traders said. About 20–21 trucks, carrying 20,000-25,000 kg of tur each, arrived in the market. Prices of tur are likely to rise this week due to a fall in arrivals and low stocks with millers and traders, the India Pulses and Grains Association said in its weekly report on Monday. The market is keeping an eye on import deliveries in July, the association said.

Prices of tur at Katni in Madhya Pradesh were steady at INR 7,050-INR 7,150 per 100 kg, according to the association.

MASUR prices in Indore were steady at INR 6,200-INR 6,300 per 100 kg, Kochar said. Prices are steady due to a lack of cues, he said. Prices are likely to rise in the short term as arrivals are low. Farmers are not bringing their produce to the markets as they are too occupied with sowing, he said.

Prices of the choti variety of masur at Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh were steady at INR 5,800-INR 6,125 per 100 kg, according to the association. Prices of the moti variety of masur in Lalitpur were also steady at INR 6,300-INR 6,850 per 100 kg.  End
