India Sun rainfall 3% below normal at 7.7 mm; 8% above normal since Jun 1

MUMBAI – India received 7.7 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 3% below the normal of 7.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions across the country, two received above-normal rainfall and two below-normal rainfall.

 

East and northeast recorded 8.0 millimetres of rainfall, 39% below the normal of 13.1 millimetres. The southern peninsula received 24% below normal rainfall at 4.5 millimetres. Rainfall in northwest India was 28% above normal at 6.7 millimetres, while it was 15% above normal at 10.2 millimetres in central India.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions, rainfall on Sunday was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in one, "normal" in four, "deficient" in 11, and "large deficient" in 10, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 8% above normal rainfall at 170.3 millimetres, the data showed.  End
